Dolphins Plus’ Research Department is happy to announce an exciting new collaboration with Mark Higginbottom and the MSeis team. The UK based company specializes in manufacturing passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) systems and provision of skilled operators for the marine seismic and research industries. With over 20 years of experience, MSeis mission focuses on promoting environmental awareness and advancing marine science. To further that goal, MSeis generously donated a custom-built, static Night Hawk III hydrophone array to Dolphins Plus to aid and advance a number of on-going acoustic research projects. The system will also serve as a catalyst for marine education, where students and professionals can gain hands on practical experiences utilizing the system in conjunction with MSeis established/certified passive acoustic monitoring courses at Dolphins Plus. In addition to MSeis’s already recognized coursework, the static array system will offer supplemental acoustic training for post processing, and localization. This multidisciplinary approach is unparalleled, giving trainees the ability to gain a diversified skill set to become more marketable in the acoustic field.
Dolphins Plus would like to express our gratitude to Mark and the MSeis team for building the customized system, as well as their continual technical support to our staff scientists. Their efforts are assisting and advancing our knowledge about our resident population by acquiring a more fine-scale acoustic analysis.
