Dolphins Plus Bayside is proud to announce the addition of four new members to our marine mammal family! On November 19, 2014, four male Atlantic bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) were transported from Discovery Cove in Orlando, as part of a long-term program of conservation to promote biological diversity. The fabulous four include seven-year-old Ige, five-year-old Brigg, and four-year-olds Axl and Hurlee. These conservation efforts between marine mammal facilities are utilized to help encourage genetic diversity among marine mammals in managed care. Genetic diversity is imperative to promoting the health, success, and the future of established populations in human care. The boys appear to love their new home and continue to explore their diverse surroundings!
While they are still adjusting to their new home, it is safe to say that they are thriving under the care of the Dolphins Plus Bayside team! We are excited to promote a comfortable acclimation to such novel surroundings and carry on their development with a variety of new husbandry, interactive, and show behaviors. Dolphins Plus Bayside will provide updates on their progress and looks forward to inviting you to meet the fab four and join them in the water for our Shallow Water Encounter! Dolphins Plus Bayside would like to thank SeaWorld, Ocean Embassy, and all of the Discovery Cove animal advocates for this successful collaboration! We simply cannot express how thrilled we are to welcome the boys into our Dolphins Plus Bayside family!
