Seasonal Husbandry Assistant

Animal Care

Start your Marine Mammal career in the Florida Keys!

Dolphins Plus, Inc. is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Animal Care Team as a Seasonal Husbandry Assistant. This full-time, three-month position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced marine mammal professionals while supporting the daily care of our resident dolphin population.Located in beautiful Key Largo, Florida, Dolphins Plus is dedicated to animal welfare, education, conservation, and creating meaningful connections between people and dolphins. The Seasonal Husbandry Assistant plays an important role in supporting these efforts through animal care, guest engagement, and facility operations.

What You'll Do

As a Seasonal Husbandry Assistant, you'll support the Animal Care Team with a variety of daily responsibilities, including:

  • Fish preparation and diet management

  • Habitat cleaning and maintenance

  • Daily record keeping and data entry

  • Assisting with animal husbandry, enrichment, and training activities

  • Supporting educational presentations and guest programs

  • Providing exceptional guest service

  • Maintaining a safe and healthy environment for both animals and guests

Who We're Looking For

This position is ideal for recent graduates or individuals looking to gain valuable experience in the marine mammal field.Qualified candidates should possess:

  • A bachelor's degree in Biology, Psychology, Marine Science, Animal Behavior, Zoology, or a related field

  • A basic understanding of operant and classical conditioning principles

  • Strong communication and public speaking skills

  • A positive attitude and ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment

  • A passion for animal care, education, and conservation

  • The ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Preferred Qualifications

  • SCUBA certification

  • Previous animal care, volunteer, or internship experience

  • Experience working with the public

What we do is very hands on which requires team members to be on-premises.

Do I need prior experience to apply?
